The original Boll Weevil Monument in Enterprise, Alabama, was damaged by teenage boys on July 8, 1998, when they ripped the black boll weevil out of the statue's hands. This “prank” tore off part of the statue’s arms and sent cracks down it’s back. A replica was created and placed in the original monument’s location in downtown Enterprise. The original monument, seen in the pictures on this page, is now in a glass case in The Depot Museum, located next to the railroad tracks a block away from where the replica keeps vigil downtown.
